A Beautiful Mind expresses the fight over inner and outer desires

In the 2001 film A Beautiful Mind, Russell Crowe stars as John Nash Jr., the brilliant and eccentric mathematician. It details his arrival at Prince University and his spiritual healing as he fights against his own mental delusions, which gradually become more pronounced.
Nash must fight against his mind while at the same time trying to maintain his marriage with his wife and raise a child. His adventure takes him through high-speed car chases, chess games, top-secret headquarters and mental treatment clinics – and the viewer is never quite sure what is real and what is false.
He is eventually given medications to better resolve his schizophrenic episodes, but finds that the pills harm his mental acuity. Instead, Nash chooses the path of holistic healing. He learns to control his own urges and, eventually, overcomes the battle inside of his own head.
For his revolutionary work on complex game theory, he is awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics.
A Beautiful Mind resonated with many people. It won four Academy Awards in 2001 for Best Adapted Screenplay, Picture, Directing and Supporting Actress. Some critics hailed it as one of the best films of the year.
