Be yourself when speaking publicly in the workplace

While many people may try to channel their inner actor in order to perform well under the pressure that is public speaking in the workplace, simply being yourself can improve your personal growth in this field.

According to a recent management tip from the Harvard Business Review, most people have to work hard when public speaking, so it is important to practice organizing your thoughts and connecting with the audience.

Public speaking in the workplace is not only reserved for managers, however, as employees can be asked to address members of the company on a regular basis in meetings and other situations.

"Those who find public speaking daunting – and who doesn't to some degree? – may think they need to become better actors to improve," says the Business Review. "Acting rarely helps, though. Don't try to be someone else or channel a smooth-talking alter ego."

Public speaking can be even more important in times of economic struggle such as these, as employers typically look for such skills when singling out who to potentially hire or retain at the company.
