School of Seven Bells’ Half-Asleep speaks of letting thoughts pass through

The School of Seven Bells' ethereal and calming song, Half-Asleep, discusses the importance of letting thoughts, memories and emotions keep passing in the mind. This speaks to the values of meditation when contemplating one's life dream.
The tune features the beautiful harmonies of identical twin sisters Alejandra and Claudia Dehez, whose mystical voices intertwine as they sing about the fading of different thoughts from the mind.
"Sometimes I go whole days listening, bored, half sleep / I won't say anything that's worth a thing to me / One day, suddenly, time took a turn that once felt so brief / I blinked to see polite ghosts fading quickly," they croon.
Half-Asleep also warns not to dwell on troubling thoughts. The song is often interpreted as an anthem to the concept of accepting things as they are, while letting go of anything that proves too troublesome.
Reviewer Mike Newmark writes on Amazon.com that the band is a "dream pop" group and remarks on the harmonies by the two vocalists. "Alejandra and Claudia are so in tune with their own songs, you can practically feel the telepathy operating in their cadences," he says.
