Meditation may help kids get to sleep

Parents who struggle with putting their children to bed each night may be relieved to find that there is a simple, non-medicinal technique that may help their kids fall asleep with ease: meditation.
Teaching kids how to meditate may do more than encourage healthy sleep patterns, it can also help them deal with stress later in life and, in turn, avoid a catalog of anxiety-related illnesses.
Begin by creating a soothing atmosphere. Play a tape or a CD of nature sounds, like waves, wind or animals. Instruct the child to close their eyes and focus on the calming noises, pushing the worries of tomorrow out of the brain.
A guided visualization may also help. Ask the youngster to think of a place they would like to go or an activity they would like to partake in. Then, take them on a mental journey of that experience by describing in a calm, soothing voice the events that would take place.
These techniques may do wonders for a hyperactive child. Ilchi Lee says meditation is one of they keys to a healthy life, so it may be a worthwhile effort to introduce it to kids early on in life.
